I’m still learning to navigate the site. Rather than comment on an existing post, can I post new information or requests?

Interested in the 17th Louisiana Infantry, and am trying to compile all information I can find on this regiment. Have already searched the Official Records for any mention of the 17th.

Searched Andrew Booth’s “Louisiana Confederate Soldiers” and have extracted entries on all members of the 17th, which I am matching/correlating with the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors system information. When that is complete, I plan to match/add information from each man’s compiled service records.

I’ll appreciate absolutely any information on this unit, which formed in September 1861, and participated at Shiloh, Port Gibson, Chickasaw Bluffs, and Vicksburg (and perhaps other minor action, as at Monterey, Tennessee). Unit surrendered at Vicksburg, then was paroled back into the Trans-Mississippi.

Currently, I’m just concentrating on the unit through the Vicksburg surrender.

Please let me know how to post a “new” comment, rather than a comment on an existing post. Thanks.

  • George,
Thank you for your posts. My blog is not set up as a bulletin board, so there is no way to start your own thread – you can only reply to articles, and pages, that have been published. I would recommend that you check out the bulletin board over at Civil War Interactive: http://www.civilwarinteractive.com/. The folks that frequent the board there are always very helpful. Good Luck!
