Steven,
Thanks for the comment on my article on Duryee Zouaves. I am amazed at what they endured at Bull Run. If you have pictures of the sword, and scanned letters, I would be willing to add them to the article.

excellent article. I was looking for information on Duryeé Zouaves. My wife's great, great grandfather was in the unit. he was wounded at 2nd bull run and taken to Libby Prision. I was copies of his letters from there, and a sword that belonged to him. His name was Ira Under Hill Travis, I think he was a Sargent. any information that is available would be appreciated, and I would be glade to share what I have. Odd twist in history, he was taken to Jericho, Virginia (Now called Courtland) for treatment then by rail from Franklin, VA to Richmond. I moved from Huntington, New York, to Franklin,VA, 3 years ago. I had no idea that this is where he was brought. we are a mile or so from Courtland (Jericho).

Excellent article. The late Brian C. Pohanka would be very proud. One of the legions of Civil War re-enactors, renowned historian Mr. Pohanka served as captain of the 5th New York (Duryée's Zouaves) Volunteer Infantry, Company A, a living history organization.
