One minor quibble, however. Col. Samuel Zook commanded the 3rd Brigade (not the 1st) of Hancock's Division at the Battle of Fredericksburg, that preceded the 2nd (Irish) Brigade in the battle. I have an ancestor, Pvt. George W. Getz, of Co. E, 53rd Penn. Vol. Inf., 3rd Brigade, who was mortally wounded before the stone wall at Marye's Heights. An excellent, thorough article. The flag which hangs over the enterance to Dail Eireann, (the Irish Parliament) debating chamber in Dublin, is one of the Fighting 69th replacement regimental flags presented to the 69th in the fall of 1862 and carried into battle at Fredericksburg (the originals flags were torn to shreds in previous battles). President John F. Kennedy presented the flag to the Irish people when he addressed the parliament during his visit to Ireland in June, 1963. The links between Ireland and the USA surely run deep.
